Good food day

In my quest for 80 less pounds, I thought I'd start sharing food ideas.

I just enjoyed a GREAT salad of mixed greens/herbs + red grapes + turkey breast (no skin, roasted it myself!) and a dressing I made up of orange vinegar + olive oil and a touch of orange marmalade and nutmeg. Plus a slice of my homemade whole wheat bread. GOOD dinner.

Lunch = arugula and spinach, london broil, and tabbouleh. Double yum.

Um, breakfast . . . I learned that my carl's jr breakfast burrito = 550 calories + 39 or something equally ridiculous grams of fat. I am now cured of that lazy breakfast habit. Back to the good stuff tomorrow!

After several days of unhappy tummy, I now have a surprisingly happy tummy. Probably from the reduction in sugar and processed foods, and getting used to the fiber and good for you foods. Also drinking LOTS of water.

Big push at work to prepare for a conference this week, and another conference in three weeks. Fingers crossed! We have excellent staff working on these, so I'm not too worried.

And just enjoying this nice cool August weather! I'm sure we'll pay for it with another heat wave!

TGIS, TBIMT

Thank God it's Sunday, too bad it's Monday tomorrow . . .

Up early yesterday to drive up to San Francisco for grad school orientation. Tried to stay awake through the 5.5 hours of it. Tried to stay awake for the drive home. Tried to stay awake through the Safeway stop (since my fridge was completely empty). Crawled into bed at 4pm (when I finally got home), watched bad cable movies and caught up on some work. The cats were very happy.

Today, woke up late (YAY), Whole Foods to get the good veggies, laundry, etc. Filled up and put out the bird feeders, and the birds JUST discovered this -- Fiona's transfixed, have no idea where Molly is, but she's missing out!

Just took a turkey breast out of the oven (YUM), cut up my celery for snacks, a loaf of bread is in the bread maker that I inherited (inaugural loaf). I need another day off, but won't get it, darn!

Aha! Molly has just sprung onto the scene. I've never seen eyes move so fast while a body sits so still. I'm going to have to go get a bird book so that I know what I'm feeding . . .

I should get up to do another load of laundry, but I can't move . . .

Finished listening to Firewing, the last of Kenneth Oppel's children's books about Shade the bat. Yes, yes, I know, of ye of little faith -- I love kid's books, and these were really very good, though such a sad finale that I was a wreck driving around today -- really touched an inner emotional core. I recommend them, but time the last half of the last tape to when you're driving HOME.

Started working with a "wellness coach" this week -- it's pretty cool, I must say. Setting long term and short term goals, making small changes, relearning patterns, etc. Hence, the cutting up of celery (VERY good with almond butter!), etc. I'll be roasting veggies shortly: asparagus, yam, baby red potatoes, onion, acorn squash. Toss with some olive oil and garlic, and I'm good to go! Also making tabbouleh with olives marinated in lemon and garlic (GOOD), grape tomatoes, mint, feta, and some asparagus (trust me, VERY good).

OK, I'd better get off my bum and go for the final push of chores.

GREAT weekend, relaxing, uneventful

I did some major relaxing, ran lots of errands, cut my hair, washed my car, did some cooking, etc.

And it's danged cold right now -- I'm going to need to find nice warm socks to sleep well tonight. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the cold!

As much as I hate summer (and I do), it always means that Fall is just around the corner, and I love love love Fall.

Other than this, I got nothing. I'll try to write something more meaningful later.

Recovery

Worked at home today -- couldn't wake up and couldn't walk!!! My calves and achilles were so cramped up that it took me all day with little bits of walking and stretching, with liberal use of my prescription NSAID and muscle relaxants to be able to walk. It still HURTS, but I can walk more than a few feet at a time!

Yes, Kris, Rich, it was my idea and my fault! I own up!

I was pretty wiped last night -- fell asleep standing up while brushing my teeth -- I have to say that's a first.

My cats slept like LOGS today -- they were pretty wired all weekend.

This is more than a little sad!!!

Good friends, good music, good food

Rich and Kris spent the weekend with me, here are some of the highlights:
My cats are slowly recovering from company. I'm curled up in bed with incredibly aching and painful feet and legs (gotta love neuropathy and lupus).

Going to my folks' farm this week, raising chickens (~600) and eggs (hopefully not that many each day!). I'll post pix!
