now that keeping SEO in mind takes a lot of priority I've had to change how I write my descriptions.
I used to use the first line to grab the readers attention then I'd get into what the photograph's subject mattter followed by item details, size, materials uses.
Now I put all the details up front then follow with the flowery descriptions about subject.
I used to write ad copy for an art supply companies newsletter. There my focus was on telling my customers about the features and benefits of each item I was writing about which is not much different from writing about my art.
